Can changing our perspective reveal a purpose we never noticed before?

Entry 4 · July 11, 2026

A glass bottle placed upside down in a garden, tipped so it slowly drips water into the soil beneath it.

I came across a glass bottle placed upside down in a garden. Instead of holding a drink, it was slowly watering the soil.

What caught my attention was that nothing about the bottle had changed. It was still the same bottle. The only difference was how it was being used.

It made me wonder how often we overlook something simply because we've only ever seen it one way. A different perspective has a way of revealing possibilities that were there all along.

Even the label looked different because the bottle was upside down. What was once easy to read suddenly became unfamiliar. It reminded me that changing our perspective does more than alter what we see. Sometimes it changes what we understand.

Maybe that is true for people too.

We often assume we know ourselves, others, or even our circumstances because we've given them a label. But labels are limited. Purpose is not always found in what something is called. Sometimes it is found in what it becomes when viewed from a different angle.

Maybe the question is not whether anything has changed.

Maybe the better question is whether we are willing to look again.
