What if maturity isn't about losing your childlike wonder, but learning how to protect it?

I saw an ice cream truck today, and it made me think about how differently we experience the world as children.

When we're young, curiosity comes naturally. We ask questions without worrying if they're the right ones. We imagine possibilities before we think about limitations. We believe we can become almost anything because we haven't learned all the reasons we supposedly can't.

As we grow older, something shifts. We become more careful, more realistic, and more concerned with certainty than curiosity. We stop exploring as freely, not because the world has become less interesting, but because we've convinced ourselves we've already seen enough.

But maybe that's not what maturity is meant to be.

Maybe maturity isn't about outgrowing wonder. Maybe it's about protecting it. Choosing to stay curious when it's easier to assume. Choosing to try when it's safer to stay comfortable. Choosing to believe there's still more to learn, more to experience, and more to become.

The world hasn't lost its ability to surprise us.

The real question is whether we've stopped letting it.
